Everyone out there, please stop freaking out, the Zodiacs have NOT changed, they are the same it is simply that constellations are moving and shifting locations and that calls for some shift in nature and energies as well. I have been seeing a rash of Sagittarius’s freaking out thinking they are no longer Sagittarius’s, Wrong!!!
Ophiuchus or Serpentarius The Serpent Bearer which sits at Scorpio 27° – Sagittarius 27° has always been in the Constellations and is also known as Æsculapius the God of Medicine. While, yes, he is now been looked at more closely in Modern Astrology, he is not used in Traditional Astrology, the Ancients used this Constellation and it dates back to beginning of time during the time of the Sumerians. In calculating the dates the nature of this energy would affect those born between the dates of 20 November – 19 December (this is by my calculating the degree for which the constellation is known begin and end in), however, it is also said that this is only a 16 day period as stated by Mr. Royal Hill, (http://www.constellationsofwords.com/Constellations/Ophiuchus.html).
Yet, today, many modern astrologers are seeking to include this constellation in making it the 13th Sign in the Zodiac which in all thought form would ultimately change ones’ birth sign; for example, I am a Gemini born in the third face of the my Sign and with this new way this would make me a Taurus and I am nothing like a Taurus in nature am a Gemini but my nature is compiled of all the planets throughout all of my houses and the signs in which they are ruled by, be it malefic or benefic, they all define who you are, NOT just one. However, when I look at my birth chart (and the way I do my readings I include various fixed stars and constellations as according to the Picatrix and the way in which the Ancients read Astrology). I would have this sign (as according to modern readers) in my house of children and family from my Father’s side and with it in a malefic placement would portend me to bear evil children. Today, it is being looked at as the sign of the Natural Healer, Doctor, and those who are in the field of Medicine, yet when looking at the nature of Ophiuchus or Serpentarius and it’s Influence and this is according to Ptolemy it is like Saturn and moderately like Venus. It is said to give a passionate, blindly good-hearted, wasteful and easily seduced nature, together with little happiness, unseen dangers, enmity, strife and slander. Pliny said that it occasioned much mortality by poisoning.
The Constellations also called Æsculapius, and held to rule medicines. By the Cabalists/Kabalists it is associated with the Hebrew letter Oin and the 16th Tarot (Trump) “The Lightening-Struck Tower”, typically this card is associated with one’s home in danger of being lost, destroyed or with great tragedy will occur to one or more of its occupants. The only book out there that discusses this and how the signs change and how ones nature change/s is called “The 13th Sign”, by Mary Franci Abbamonte, however, I personally did not find it to benefit me or to assist me in my path as an Astrologer, so it gathers dust.
“Star Tales by Ian Ridpath” discusses in great detail the myths surrounding the Constellations that dance in the sky each day and night and those seeking to understand more Ophiuchus I would suggest purchasing this book and reading it, this book I do utilize a great deal when working as a Traditional Astrologer.
When looking at Astrology, many do not take it seriously and think how can the stars define me as a person and my life in which I shall live and journeys I shall travel, experiences I shall endure? ridiculous, well, NO it is not, Astrology is the Oldest and most difficult form of divination in the reading of the Native, Horary, Mundane and more, but it is accurate down to how one shall die. Do not worry, you are what you are and nothing can or shall change your Birth Sign or those who are born today. This is why I stopped reading Modern Astrology many, many Moons ago, I got hit with confusion and readings that simply never were correct, since using the Traditional system my readings much more accurate and, yes, I do include various constellations and fixed stars in my readings, they do go to the heart and nature of one’s life and nature just as the planets.
